Ubuntu Linux is “a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support.” Ubuntu provides everything that most people need on their PC. It includes the operating system and applications such as the Mozilla Firefox web browser, OpenOffice.org office suite, email software and many others - in fact, over 17000 packages!
Ubuntu is compatible with most PC hardware available - many users report that it “Just Works”. However, due to the fact that most hardware manufacturers design their products to be compatible with Microsoft Windows and do not support Open Source software, there are various components that are either completely incompatible, or only partially working with Ubuntu Linux.
