About
PenguinLabs was founded by Morgan Collett in 2005.
PenguinLabs provides hardware compatibility testing for Ubuntu Linux.
PenguinLabs provides assurance that a particular PC model is compatible with Ubuntu. Using a rigorous test procedure, the hardware is evaluated, and any non-working hardware is identified.
Morgan Collett previously held several positions at Thawte from 1998 until 2003, including chief software engineer, security manager, and MIS manager. His experience included a year spent at VeriSign’s HQ in Silicon Valley during which time he worked on integration of VeriSign and Thawte CA operations after VeriSign’s acquisition of Thawte in 2000.
During his time at Thawte, Morgan wrote code, installed servers, managed infrastructure, administered databases, trained employees, wrote articles, presented talks, managed server farms, wrote policies, debugged applications, liaised with lawyers, troubleshot certificate contents, wrote web content and fixed customer problems. Almost everything at Thawte ran on Debian GNU/Linux (and many things still do) and this provided Morgan with lots of experience installing, administering and using Linux.
In 2003, Morgan founded MCODE, a consulting business focusing on PKI and digital signature technology.
Morgan holds a BSc Hons (Computer Science) from UCT. He is a keen supporter of Open Source, and has been running Ubuntu Linux as his primary operating system since the release of version 4.10, “Warty Warthog”.
Morgan holds an LPIC-1 certification from the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) and assisted in setting the exam for the Ubuntu Certified Professional qualification.
